Als Scherwind bezeichnet man einen plötzlich auftretenden böigen Fallwind.

Triebkraft sind große Luftdruckunterschiede, bei denen die Windbewegung als Ausgleich fungiert. In Bodennähe stellt dieses Wetterphänomen insbesondere bei der Landung von Flugzeugen eine potenzielle Gefahr dar. Ein Beispiel dafür ist das Flugunglück von Avianca-Flug 52, dass bei New York bei schlechtem Wetter von Scherwinden erfasst wurde und durch den darauf folgenden Treibstoffmangel abstürzte.
