Steve Mizerak

Steve Mizerak (* 12. Oktober 1944, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, USA; † 29. Mai 2006); Spitzname The Miz; war ein professioneller Poolbillardspieler, der in den 1970er und 1980er Jahren zur Weltspitze im Poolbillard gehörte[1].

Mizerak begann unter Aufsicht seines Vaters das Billardspiel zu erlernen, welcher mehrere Jahre "New Jersey State Champion" war. Mit 13 gewann Steve Mizerak die Stadtmeisterschaft seiner Heimatstadt Perth Amboy und wurde Profi. Allerdings bezweifelte er einige Zeit später, dass er durch Billard seinen Lebensunterhalt bestreiten können werde und beschloss, aufs College zu gehen. Er schloss ein Lehramtsstudium ab und unterrichtete 13 Jahre lang.

Seine größten Erfolge konnte er in den Poolbillarddisziplinen 9-Ball und 14 und 1 endlos erzielen; etwa 1978 durch einen Erfolg bei den traditionsreichen US Open im 9-Ball. Er wurde 1980 in die Hall of Fame des Billiard Congress of America aufgenommen. Mit 36 Jahren war er der jüngste Spieler, dem jemals diese Ehre zuteil wurde [2].

1986 hatte er einen Gastauftritt im Film Die Farbe des Geldes von Martin Scorsese.

Er starb am 29. Mai 2006 im Alter von 61 und hinterließ eine Ehefrau, zwei Söhne und zwei Enkel.
