Das Unternehmen Silicon Laboratories (kurz: Silicon Labs) ist ein US-amerikanischer Hersteller von integrierten Schaltkreisen mit Sitz in Austin, Texas. Gegründet wurde das Unternehmen im Jahr 1996. Silicon Labs entwickelt und vertreibt analoge und gemischt analog/digitale (analog/mixed signal) integrierte Schaltkreise. Die Fertigung der Produkte findet allerdings nicht innerhalb des Unternehmens statt, da Silicon Labs ein sogenanntes fabless Unternehmen ist. Gefertigt werden die Mikrochips von Foundries.
Im Dezember 2003, übernahm Silicon Labs das Unternehmen Cygnal, einen Hersteller von 8051-kompatiblen Mikrocontrollern.[2]

Produkte

Silicon Labs produziert eine breite Palette an Produkten. Zu den bekannstesten Produkten zählen die 8051 kompatiblen Mikrocontroller. Im Gegensatz zu den original 8051 verarbeiten die Mikrocontroller einzelne Befehle in einem bzw. vier Takten, wodurch Rechenleistungen bis zu 100 MIPS. Neben Mikrocontrollern vertreibt Silicon Labs u.a. ICs für Audio und Video-Anwendungen, Taktgeber und Oszillatoren, ICs für Modems und Schaltkreise für Schnittstellen wie z.B. USB.
