Ein Mainboard mit NEAT-Chipsatz für den Intel 80286

Der NEAT-Chipsatz (New Enhanced AT) wurde 1988 von Chips & Technologies entwickelt und war für den 80286 und 80386SX vorgesehen. Die vormals übliche Mainboard-Konfiguration mittels Jumpern wurde weitestgehend durch eine Softwarekonfiguration über das BIOS abgelöst. Mit diesem Chipsatz war es auf dem i80286 möglich, ohne EMS-Karte EMS auf diesem Prozessor zu verwenden. Der Chipsatz zeichnete sich neben dem dank Bank-Interleaving hohen Speicherdurchsatz durch ein in seinem Umfang bis dato unbekanntes UMB-Speichermanagement aus, welches im Gegensatz zur MMU der 80386 (und insbesondere zur 386SX-Bauvariante) den Prozessor nicht ausbremste.
