Die Number Resource Organization NRO wurde im Oktober 2003 von den Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) APNIC, ARIN, LACNIC und RIPE NCC gegründet. Hauptaufgabe ist, weltweit die korrekte Vergabe von IP-Adress-Blöcken zu unterstützen.
Die NRO nimmt überwiegend kommunikative Aufgaben zwischen den RIRs wahr und vertritt deren Interessen gegenüber ICANN. In regelmäßig abgehaltenen Meetings werden aktuelle Entwicklungen und Probleme besprochen. Die NRO stellt eine zentrale Anlaufstelle dar und ermöglicht es den Regional Internet Registries, mit einer Stimme zu sprechen.
