Out of print

Ein Gegenstand ist out of print (OOP), wenn der Hersteller die Produktion des Artikels einstellt und dieser somit nach Verkauf der Lagerbestände nicht mehr als Neuware am Markt erhältlich ist. Meistens trifft dies auf Bücher zu, der Begriff kann aber auch bei anderen Medien zum Einsatz kommen, beispielsweise bei Musik-CDs oder Video-DVDs.

Häufig erscheint früher oder später ein vergleichbarer Nachfolgeartikel oder eine Neuauflage. Wenn dies nicht der Fall ist oder nicht absehbar ist, kann der Out-of-Print-Gegenstand bei entsprechend hoher Nachfrage zu einem Sammlerobjekt werden.
