Das Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) ist ein 1985 gegründetes amerikanisches Gremium zur Information von Eltern über die Verrohung der Texte in der aktuellen Musik. Es wird auf einen Trend zu sexuellen und gewaltbezogenen Inhalten sowie die Verherrlichung von Alkohol- und anderem Drogenkonsum hingewiesen mit dem Ziel einer Zensur.
Gegründet wurde das Gremium von den sog. „Washington wives“: Tipper Gore (Frau von Al Gore), Susan Baker (Frau von Finanzminister James Baker), Pam Howar (Frau des Washingtoner Immobilienmaklers Raymond Howar) und Sally Nevius (Frau des Vorsitzenden der Washingtoner Stadtverwaltung John Nevius).
Um dieses Problem zu bekämpfen, regte das PMRC eine freiwillige Selbstkontrolle der Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) zusammen mit der Musikindustrie an. Leitlinien und Bewertungssysteme ähnlich wie in der Filmindustrie sollten etabliert werden. Ein weiterer Vorschlag waren Warnhinweise auf CD-Covern, so dass Musikgeschäfte die betroffenen CDs aus den Regalen nehmen sollen und Fernsehsender diese Lieder nicht mehr spielen. Diese Warnhinweise wurden schließlich in Form des Parental-Advisory-Aufklebers realisiert.
