Peat

Steve Peat (* 17. Juni 1974 in Chapeltown, South Yorkshire) ist ein britischer Mountainbike-Profi, der insbesondere in der Disziplin Downhill erfolgreich ist.

Im Alter von drei Jahren begann Steve Peat mit Radfahren. Bevor er in die Mountainbike-Szene einstieg, fuhr er BMX. Nach der Schule fuhr er im Alter von 19 Jahren die ersten Rennen. Seine Karriere als Mountainbiker begann Steve Peat neben Rob Warner mit dem Saracen-Team, bevor er zum Team MBUK wechselte. Nach einem Wechsel vom GT Bicycles-Team zum Team Orange zwischen 2002 und 2005 folgte 2006 der Wechsel zum Santa Cruz Syndicate Team, in dem seit 2008 u.a. auch Nathan Rennie und Greg Minnaar fahren.

Peat ist dreifacher UCI Downhill-Weltcup Gesamtsieger (2002, 2004 und 2006), bekam insgesamt drei Silber-Medaillen bei Mountainbike-Weltmeisterschaften im Downhill, zwei Titel als Downhill-Europameister und sieben britische Downhill-Meistertitel.

Peat ist mit Adele Croxon verheiratet und hat einen Sohn.

Er wurde im November 2008 zum Ehrendoktor der Hallam University in Sheffield ernannt. Peaty stammt aus Sheffield - mit dem Titel wurden seine Leistungen im Sport sowie Beiträge zu lokalen Charity Aktionen in Sheffield gewürdigt.
