Die Wrackbarsche (Polyprionidae) leben im Atlantik und im Indopazifik, in gemäßigten und subtropischen Bereichen. Es sind große, 1,5 bis 2,5 Meter lange Tiere von typischer Barschgestalt. Ihre Rückenflosse hat elf bis zwölf Hartstrahlen sowie gleichviel Weichstrahlen. Als Lauerjäger sind sie ihrem Namen entsprechend häufig in den Höhlungen von Wracks anzutreffen.
