Pro-Protein

Als Präkursor-Protein (lat. praecursor, dt. Vorläufer) wird ein inaktives Protein bezeichnet, welches durch posttranslationale Modifikationen in eine aktive Form überführt werden kann. Die Vorsilben Pro oder Prepro vor dem Namen des Proteins kennzeichnen den Präkursor.

Präkursor-Enzyme werden als Proenzyme oder Zymogene und Präkursor-Hormone als Prohormone bezeichnet.
