Der Prometheus Patera ist ein aktiver ringförmiger Vulkan auf dem Jupitermond Io. Prometheus liegt auf der Hemisphäöre von Io, die von Jupiter weg gelegen ist. Seine Position ist 1.52° Süd und 153.94° West.[1] Prometheus besteht aus dem ringförmigen Vulkan Prometheus Patera und einem 100 km langem Lavafluss.[2] Der Vulkan wurde erstmals auf Bildern vonVoyager 1 im März 1979 erkannt.[3] 1979 benannte die Internationale Astronomische Union ihn nach dem griechischen Gott des Feuers, Prometheus.
