Rail

Als Rail (aus dem engl. „Railing“), zu deutsch Schiene oder Geländer, bezeichnet man eine Hindernisart in modernen Sportarten wie z. B. Skateboard, Freeski, Snowboard, Streetboard, Aggressive-Inline und BMX. Eine andere Bedeutung des Wortes Rail ist die „Kante“ eines Surfbretts. Alle Surfbretter, ob Shortboard, Longboard oder Malibu, haben dieses Konstrukt.

Geländer

Entstanden ist der häufige Wortgebrauch beim Skateboarden, da man beim Herumfahren auf Plätzen usw. anfing, die Geländer und Abschrankungen als Hindernisse miteinzubeziehen. Das englische Wort rührt daher, dass das Skateboarden aus den englischsprachigen Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika kommt. Rails werden inzwischen für Skateparks speziell angefertigt. Ein Rail besteht meistens aus einem Metallrohr, das in die verschiedensten Formen gebogen sein kann. Wichtig ist nur, dass Anfang und Ende ein wenig nach unten abgerundet sind, um das Verletzungsrisiko zu vermindern.

Einrad

Das umgangssprachliche Verb „railen“ wird unter Einrad-Fahrern für das balancieren auf einem schmalen Gegenstand benutzt.
