B5000

B5000

Der B5000 war ein Mainframecomputer, welcher 1961 durch die Burroughs Corporation entwickelt wurde. Burroughs fusionierte 1986 mit Sperry zu Unisys.

Der B5000 unterstützte folgende Funktionen:

  • Ein Dual-Prozessor mit segmentiertem Hardware-Memory
  • Implementiert als Stack-Maschine
  • Programmierbar mittels einer Erweiterung von ALGOL 60 namens Elliot ALGOL

Neben den End-User-Applikationen war das Betriebssystem – genannt MCP (Master Control Programm) – auch in ALGOL geschrieben.

Der Ausdruck Master Control Program wurde später im Film Tron verwendet.
