Der Peruanische Pfefferbaum (Schinus molle), auch Molle-Baum (Quechua mulli), gehört zur Familie der Sumachgewächse (Anacardiaceae). Der Baum wächst schnell und erreicht im Alter eine Höhe von 9 bis 15 Meter. Er hat elegante, herabhängende Blätter, die bis zu 15 cm lang sind. Sie duften aromatisch, wenn man sie verreibt.

Die winzigen, gelblichweißen Blüten bilden sich im späten Frühjahr bis zum Frühsommer. Aus ihnen entwickeln sich attraktive, rötliche Beeren mit einem pfeffrigem Geschmack, die leicht giftig sind.

Die Bäume sind frostempfindlich und benötigen eine Mindesttemperatur von 5 °C.
