Scotch snap

Der scotch snap ist ein rhythmisches Element, das vermutlich aus der schottischen Dudelsackmusik stammt. Es wird von den Komponisten häufig als Element für eine folkloristisch klingende Komposition verwendet. Zum Beispiel benutzt es Antonín Dvořák in seiner Neunten Sinfonie "Aus der Neuen Welt" neben indianischen Melodien, Vogelrufen und Pentatonik.

Die rhythmische Abfolge ist "kurz - lang", z. B. in der Form Sechzehntel- mit folgender punktierter Achtelnote; vergl. "lombardischer Rhythmus".
