Monty Python’s Spamalot ist ein Musical, das auf dem Spielfilm Die Ritter der Kokosnuß der britischen Komikergruppe Monty Python basiert. Es enthält außerdem einige Anlehnungen aus anderen Monty-Python-Filmen. Es wurde von Eric Idle, Monty-Python-Mitglied, und John Du Prez geschrieben. Die Regie führt Mike Nichols. Spamalot handelt von der Legende um König Arthur und den Rittern der Tafelrunde auf ihrer Suche nach dem Heiligen Gral.

Seit dem 17. März 2005 läuft das ca. 2½ Stunden lange Musical im Shubert Theater am Broadway in New York, zuvor gab es Preview-Veranstaltungen in Chicago und New York.

Vom 16. Oktober 2006 bis zum 3. Januar 2009 war das Musical im Londoner Palace Theatre zu sehen.

Vom 1. April 2007 bis zum 13. Juli 2008 wurde Monty Python’s Spamalot auch in Las Vegas im Wynn Las Vegas (im The Grail Theater) aufgeführt.

Am 25. Januar 2009 startete „Monty Python’s Spamalot – Das total verrückte Musical“ in deutscher Sprache auch im Musical Dome Köln.

Auszeichnungen

Spamalot wurde für 14 Tony Awards nominiert. Ausgezeichnet wurde es letztendlich als bestes Musical, Sara Ramirez als Beste Hauptdarstellerin und Mike Nichols für die Beste Musicalregie.

Die Tournee wurde mit dem Boston’s Elliot Norton Award für Outstanding Visiting Production (etwa: Herausragendes Gastspiel) ausgezeichnet.
