Unter dem Standardpotential eines Redoxpaares versteht man die unter Standardbedingungen messbare elektrische Spannung zwischen einer Wasserstoffhalbzelle und der Halbzelle jenes Redoxpaares.
Die nach Größe geordnete Tabellierung der Standardpotentiale ergibt die elektrochemische Spannungsreihe. Je stärker positiv das Standardpotential ist, desto edler ist das Element.
