Stiff Little Fingers ist eine Punkband aus Belfast, die 1977 gegründet wurde.

Geschichte

Ursprünglich in der Absicht entstanden, ausschließlich Songs über Nordirland zu schreiben, was sie einige Singles auch durchhielten, ließen sie diese selbstauferlegte Limitierung bald hinter sich. Von John Peel entdeckt und gefördert, spielten sie zuerst das wütende Debüt Inflammable Material ein, das noch einige Referenzen an das Nordirland-Problem enthielt, erweiterten aber bald danach ihr musikalisches Spektrum und galten bis zu ihrer ersten Auflösung Anfang 1983 als die „kleinen Brüder“ von The Clash.

1987 reformierten sie sich zunächst nur für einige Konzerte. Doch wurde daraufhin der Ruf nach neuem Material laut. Sporadisch erschienen später einige Alben mit wechselnder Besetzung, die zwar nicht mehr an das alte Schaffen heranreichten, aber durchaus wohlwollend aufgenommen wurden. Anfang 2006 erschien das erste Solo-Album von Sänger und Mastermind Jake Burns, nachdem er 1983/84 schon zwei Singles unter eigenem Namen herausgebracht hatte.

Obwohl sie selbst den großen kommerziellen Durchbruch nicht geschafft haben, hatten sie bleibenden Einfluss auf die Musikgeschichte, indem sie später sehr erfolgreiche Bands wie Green Day maßgeblich beeinflussten.
