Die Stoney (auch Stoney Nation, Nakoda Nation oder Stoney Nakoda Nation) sind ein Indianervolk im Westen Kanadas. Es setzt sich aus den Bearspaw-, Chiniki- und Wesley-First Nations zusammen. Die meisten der ca. 4000 Mitglieder leben in Reservaten im Südwesten von Alberta, davon der größte Teil in Morley, das am Bow River zwischen Calgary und Banff liegt. Dort befindet sich auch die Verwaltung des Stammes.

Die Mitglieder der Stoney sind Nachfahren der Dakota, Lakota und Nakota, die einst ein großes Gebiet der Prärie und der Rocky Mountains in Nordamerika bevölkerten. Im Jahr 1877 wurde ihnen im Treaty 7 von der britischen Krone Unabhängigkeit zugesichert. Zur Sicherung ihrer wirtschaftlichen Zukunft plant die Stoney Nakoda Nation derzeit (Stand 2006) den Bau eines Spielkasinos, der jedoch innerhalb des Stammes umstritten ist [1].

Mit Stoney wird auch die Sprache der Stoney bezeichnet, die zur Familie der Sioux-Sprachen gehört. Sie ist im Aussterben begriffen und wird von unter 35-jährigen kaum noch flüssig gesprochen (Stand 2006). Es gibt Bemühungen, sie am Leben zu erhalten.
