Die Stärlinge (Icteridae) sind eine artenreiche und formreiche Familie in der Ordnung der Sperlingsvögel (Passeriformes) in 24 Gattungen.

Stärlinge kommen ausschließlich in der Neuen Welt vor. Von Nordamerika über Mittelamerika bis Südamerika leben sie in vielen verschiedenen Lebensräumen. Die meisten Arten bewohnen Wälder und bewaldete Gebiete, andere leben im offenen Gelände, in Gärten, Wüsten, Buschland oder bei Sümpfen.

Die Weibchen sind kleiner als die Männchen. Zu den kleinsten Arten gehört der Reisstärling (Dolichonyx oryzivorus) mit etwa 18 bis 20 Zentimeter. Die größte Art mit 42 bis 45 Zentimeter ist der männliche Olivstirnvogel (Psarocolius viridis).

Die Stirnvögel haben sich auf Früchte als Nahrung spezialisiert, während die meisten Stärlinge Insekten bevorzugen. Einige Arten sind Allesfresser und verschmähen auch kleinere Wirbeltiere nicht.

Bei den Stärlingen gibt es einige Arten, die wie der Kuckuck Brutparasiten sind, zum Beispiel die Kuhstärlinge.
