Als Teek bezeichnet man Treibgut insbesondere aus Pflanzenresten, das permanent, aber besonders stark nach Sturmfluten, an die Küsten geschwemmt wird und dann einen Flutsaum am Strand bzw. am Deich bildet.[1]

Zusammen mit dem sonstigen angeschwemmten Müll verursacht der Teek insbesondere Schäden an der Grasnarbe des Deiches, die den Deichkörper vor Erosionen schützt. Der Teek muss also regelmäßig vom Deich entfernt und abgefahren werden. Die Beseitigung des Teeks an der deutschen Nordseeküste ist Aufgabe der Hauptdeichverbände, auch Deichachten oder Deichbände genannt.

Der Teekanfall an der deutschen Nordseeküste ist in den letzten Jahren stark angestiegen. Als Grund wird das Verbot der traditionellen Bewirtschaftung des Deichvorlandes im Nationalpark Wattenmeer vermutet.[1]
