Banana Republic ist ein Modeunternehmen, das zu der Firma GAP Inc. gehört. Das Unternehmen war bis 2008 nur in den USA , Kanada und Asien aktiv. Die Marke wurde im Jahre 1978 von Mel und Patricia Ziegler gegründet, der erste Laden wurde im Jahre 1978 in Mill Valley/Kalifornien eröffnet. Banana Republic wurde im Jahre 1983 von Gap übernommen.

In den USA wurden seit dieser Zeit über 500 Geschäfte eröffnet, der erste Laden außerhalb von Nordamerika wurde im Jahre 2005 in Tokio eröffnet. Das erste europäische Geschäft wurde 2008 in London in der Regent Street eröffnet. Im Dezember 2010 folgte ein weiteres in Mailand.

Derzeit sind die Produkte nur in Nordamerika, Asien, London und Mailand erhältlich.
