Tetraploid

Unter Tetraploidie versteht man eine spezielle Form der Polyploidie, bei der die Zellen von Teilgeweben oder auch eines kompletten Individuums vier komplette Chromosomensätze besitzen.

Tetraploidie kommt bei Pflanzen häufiger vor bzw. wird durch züchterische Methoden bei Kulturpflanzen zur Ertragssteigerung gezielt bewirkt. Auch bei menschlichen Körperzellen ist Tetraploidie bekannt: so ist ein geringer Anteil der Leber-Zellen natürlicherweise tetraploid, enthält also 92 statt 46 Chromosomen, wie in der üblichen diploiden Zelle.
