The Elected Member ist der Titel eines Romans von Bernice Rubens. Das Buch war ein Bestseller und wurde im Jahre 1970 mit dem englischen Booker Prize ausgezeichnet. Bernice Rubens ist eigentlich eine politische Autorin, doch dieses Buch handelt von einem Geschehnis in Berlin in einer kleinen Seitengasse, in der ein Mädchen namens Annelise (19 Jahre) auf einen jungen, gutaussehenden Jungen trifft und von dessen Großvater misshandelt wird.

Die Geschichte beruht auf einer wahren Begebenheit, da auch Rubens Schwester auf offener Straße misshandelt wurde, allerdings nicht in Berlin, sondern in Potsdam.
