USS Cambridge (1860)

Die USS Cambridge wurde von 1859–1860 in Medford, Massachusetts, als ziviles Dampfschiff gebaut.

Im Juli 1861 wurde es durch die US Navy gekauft. Nach Umrüstung zum Kriegsschiff nahm die USS Cambridge ihren Dienst auf und half mit bei der Blockade der Atlantikküste der Konföderierten im Amerikanischen Bürgerkrieg. Während ihrer Dienstzeit bis 1864 war sie zunächst Teil des so genannten North Atlantic Blockading Squadron, später Teil des South Atlantic Blockading Squadron[1].

Nach Ende der Kämpfe des Bürgerkrieges wurde sie im Juni 1865 verkauft. Später, bis 1878, fuhr sie als Handelsschiff unter dem Namen Minnetonka.
