Wiki Farm

Als Wikifarm werden Systeme bezeichnet, die im Internet eine Benutzeroberfläche bereitstellen, durch die man Wikis automatisiert anlegen und hosten lassen kann.

Bevor Benutzer bestehende Webseiten online verändern können, muss ein Wiki auf einem Server installiert, konfiguriert und betrieben werden. Bei einer Wikifarm wird dies stark vereinfacht und kann online erledigt werden. Wer ein Wiki in einer Wikifarm betreibt, muss Webserver, Installation und Initialisierung von Wikis nicht selbst durchführen.

Es existieren dabei nicht-kommerzielle und kommerzielle Anbieter von Wikifarmen. Während bei den meisten Anbietern jeder ein Wiki einrichten kann, haben manche diesbezüglich auch Beschränkungen.

Teilweise finanzieren sich Wikifarm-Angebote durch Einblendung von Werbung, die gegen Zahlung einer monatlichen Gebühr vermieden werden kann, wodurch meist auch eine erweiterte Funktionalität freigeschaltet wird.

Die Angebote der einzelnen Wikifarm-Anbieter unterscheiden sich neben der Preisgestaltung durch verschiedene Optionen, den bereitgestellten Speicherplatz sowie die eingesetzte Wiki-Software, z. B. Mediawiki, DokuWiki oder pBwiki. Die Wikis sind normalerweise mit einem Standardlayout versehen.
