Women in Europe for a Common Future (WECF) ist eine Nichtregierungsorganisation, die 1994 in Folge des Weltgipfels von Rio (1992) gegründet wurde, um Frauen eine stärkere Stimme in den Bereichen nachhaltige Entwicklung und Umweltpolitik zu geben.

Ziele

Ziel der Organisation ist es, Umwelt- und Gesundheitsaspekte sowie ökonomische Faktoren ins Gleichgewicht zu bringen. WECF setzt sich für eine gesunde Umwelt für alle ein. Heute ist WECF ein Netzwerk von mehr als 100 Frauen- und Umweltorganisationen in 40 Ländern. Das Netzwerk umfasst Westeuropa und die EECCA-Region.

Die Hauptthemen von WECF sind „Sichere Chemikalien für alle“, „Sichere Energie für alle“, „Sichere Nahrungsmittel für alle" und „Nachhaltige ländliche Entwicklung“ sowie „Sauberes Wasser und sanitäre Grundversorgung für alle“.

Vision ist es, dass bis 2020 alle Produkte frei von gefährlichen Chemikalien sind, alle Menschen in den betroffenen Regionen Zugang zu sicherer, bezahlbarer, erneuerbarer Energie, zu sicheren, regionalen und vielfältigen Lebensmitteln und zu sauberem Wasser und sanitärer Versorgung haben. Um dies zu erreichen, arbeitet WECF auch auf den Gebieten Armutsbekämpfung, Öffentliche Beteiligung und Umweltrechte und Geschlechterspezifische Sichtweisen.

Organisation

WECF hat eigenständige Sitze in den Niederlanden, in Deutschland und in Frankreich. Die Projektarbeit vor Ort bringt ökologische Lösungen für Probleme in den Bereichen Chemikalien, Sanitäranlagen, Energie und Landwirtschaft. Durch ihre politische Arbeit auf nationaler, europäischer, UN- und internationaler Ebene bringen Frauen ihre Sichtweisen direkt in den politischen Entscheidungsprozess ein.

WECF hat Beobachterstatus beim Wirtschafts- und Sozialrat der Vereinten Nationen (ECOSOC) und ist offizieller Partner des Umweltprogramms der Vereinten Nationen (UNEP). WECF ist Mitglied des Europäischen Ausschusses für Umwelt und Gesundheit (EEHC).
