World Opponent Network

World Opponent Network (WON) bezeichnet ein Client-Server basierendes Netzwerk, das für Multiplayer-Spiele von Spielen des Publishers Sierra Entertainment benötigt wird (siehe auch Half-Life). WON wurde von Spielen wie Homeworld, Half-Life, Star Trek: Armada, Soldier of Fortune, Dark Reign 2 und Online-Versionen von Casinospielen benutzt. Mit der Abschaltung der WON-Server wurde am 1. August 2004, gegen Proteste einiger Spieler, begonnen. Ein ähnliches Server-Netzwerk ist z. B. Battle.net von Blizzard Entertainment.

Heute existiert neben dem offiziellen, von Valve kreierten Steam die Open-Source Platform WON2.
