BSI Kitemark Prüfsiegel
British Standards ist der neue Name für die British Standards Institution (BSI) und Teil der BSI-Group. Sie ist eine Normungsorganisation und entwickelt Normen (engl. standards) die sowohl unter dem Namen "BS XXXX" als auch unter der Bezeichnung "BSi XXXX" veröffentlicht werden (wobei XXXX für die jeweilige Norm steht). Sie ist das britische Pendant zum Deutschen Institut für Normung e. V. (DIN).
Die Organisation wurde im Jahre 1901 unter dem Namen Engineering Standards Committee unter der Leitung von James Mansergh gegründet. Ihre ursprüngliche Aufgabe war die Normierung von Stahlsektionen, in erster Linie um die britische Industrie effizienter und konkurrenzfähiger zu machen. Mittlerweile existieren auch Verfahrens- und Sicherheitsnormen.
Produkte und Dienstleistungen, welche die nach BSI vorgegebene Standards erfüllen, werden vom BSI mit dem sog. Kitemark-Prüfsiegel (Name aufgrund der Ähnlichkeit mit einem Papierdrachen, englisch = kite) versehen.[1]
