Area pretectalis

Die Area pretectalis (veraltend: Area praetectalis) ist ein Gebiet im Epithalamus des Zwischenhirns. Es grenzt unmittelbar an die Colliculi superiores des Mittelhirns und enthält die Nuclei pr(a)etectales.

Die Area pretectalis ist in die Verschaltung des Pupillenlichtreflexes einbezogen. Sie erhält über den Sehnerv und Tractus opticus Afferenzen aus der Netzhaut, die über die Brachii colliculi superioress zur Area pretectalis gelangen. Die Efferenzen ziehen zum gleichseitigen und über die Commissura posterior zum kontralateralen Edinger-Westphal-Kern. Dadurch dass die Edinger-Westphal-Kerne beider Seiten erreicht werden kommt es zum konsensuellen Pupillenlichtreflex, also zur Verengung beider Pupillen bei Lichteinfall in nur ein Auge.
