Backsword oder Broadsword ist die aus England stammende, von Sammlern verwendete Bezeichnung für Militärschwerter die mit einer breiten, schweren, zweischneidigen Klinge ausgestattet waren und vor der Zeit der industriellen Massenfertigung hergestellt wurden. Die Bezeichnung betraf vor allem Schwerter die mit einem vollen, ausgeprägten Korb wie den schottischen Hochlandschwertern oder der italienischen Schiavona. Die wörtliche Übersetzung Breitschwert ist falsch. Backswords sind Schwertklingen mit einschneidiger, gerader Klinge.
