Victim blaming

Das Schlagwort Victim blaming, oder Blaming the victim (dt. „Opferschelte“), ist die umgangssprachliche Beschreibung eines Vorgehens, bei dem versucht wird die Schuld einer Straftat beim Opfer zu sehen. Verbreitet wurde dieser Ausdruck hauptsächlich in den Vereinigten Staaten ab den 1970er Jahren[1], um das Vorgehen eines Anwaltes der Verteidigung bei Vergewaltigungs-Prozessen zu beschreiben, der dem Vergewaltigungsopfer die Schuld an der Tat zuschreiben möchte um den Angeklagten zu entlasten. Neben Sexualstraftaten wird diese Art der Verteidigung auch bei Gewalttaten und Straftaten mit rassistischem Hintergrund beschrieben[2]. So beschreibt der Psychologe William Ryan „Blaming the Victim“ in seinem gleichnamigen Buch aus dem Jahre 1971 als eine Ideologie um den Rassismus gegen Afroamerikaner zu rechtfertigen[3].
