Die Dornginster (Calicotome) sind eine Pflanzengattung, die zur Unterfamilie der Schmetterlingsblütler (Faboideae) gehört innerhalb der Familie der Hülsenfrüchtler (Fabaceae).

Die direkte Übersetzung des Gattungsnamens ist "Kelchzerteiler", da beim Aufblühen der Kelch zerteilt wird und der obere Teil als Hütchen auf der Blütenkrone verbleibt.

Die Arten sind im Mittelmeerraum beheimatet. Sie wachsen vor allem in Macchia und ähnlicher Strauchvegetation.

Systematik

Die Gattung wurde von Link 1822 erstmals in der Enumeratio Plantarum Horti Regii Berolinensis beschrieben.[1]

Es gibt drei Arten:[2]

Die Gattung wird auch manchmal in die Gattung Cytisus inkludiert.
