CSS Animations

CSS Animations ist ein Modul für Cascading Style Sheets, das die Animation von XML-Elementen mit Hilfe von CSS ermöglicht.

Geschichte

Während die Pseudoklasse :hover jahrelang zum Erzeugen rudimentärer Animationen verwandt wurde, waren Erweiterungen von CSS im Bereich der Animation bis in die späten 2000er Jahre kaum vorhanden. Im Jahre 2007 gab WebKit seine Absicht bekannt, CSS-Animationen, Übergänge und Transformationen als Funktionen in Webkit zu implementieren. Darüber hinaus wurde im Februar 2009 bekannt, dass sowohl implizite als auch explizite Animationen durch CSS ermöglicht werden sollen. Weiterhin sollen CSS-Animationen Bestandteil von CSS3 werden, einem derzeitigen Arbeitsentwurf des W3C.

Browserunterstützung

Seit Juni 2011 enthält Firefox 5 Unterstützung für CSS-Animationen.[1] CSS-Animationen sind außerdem in den Nightly Builds von WebKit, Google Chrome, Safari 4 und 5, Safari für iPhone, Android 2.x und 3.x und dem RIM OS6-Webbrowser mit dem -webkit--Präfix als Modul verfügbar.[2][3] Außerdem kann CSS Animations ab iTunes 9 genutzt werden, um Multimedia-Elemente von Musikdateien zu darzustellen.

Kontroverse

Die Spezifikation von CSS-Animationen hat bei Befürwortern von JavaScript-Animationen oder, weniger ausgeprägt, SMIL-Animationen Besorgnis ausgelöst;[4] andere sehen darin einen Zug der Apple Inc., dem Hauptsponsor des WebKit-Projektes, um der Einbindung von Adobe Flash (und den vorherrschenden Flash-Animationen) in die iPhone-OS-Produktlinie von Mobiltelefonen auszuweichen, welche den Internetbrowser Safari verwenden.[5][6][7]
