Cecilia Underwood, 1. Duchess of Inverness (* circa 1785; † 1. August 1873 im Kensington Palace) war die zweite Ehefrau von Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex, dem sechsten Sohn von König Georg III.. Die Ehe war auf Grund des Royal Marriages Act von 1772 in Großbritannien nicht legal. Sie wurde am 10. April 1840 von Queen Victoria zur Duchess of Inverness aus eigenem Recht ernannt.
Leben
Ihr Vater war Arthur Gore, 2. Earl of Arran; ihre Mutter, Elizabeth Underwood. Als Tochter eines Earls trug sie den Titel Lady Cecilia Gore von Geburt an. In erster Ehe war Cecilia seit 1818 mit Sir George Buggin verheiratet, dieser verstarb am 12. April 1825. Die Ehe blieb kinderlos.
Am 2. Mai 1831 heiratete sie Prinz Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex. Da die Ehe in Großbritannien nicht anerkannt wurde, nahm sie den Geburtsnamen ihrer Mutter “Underwood” an und trug den Namen Lady Cecilia Underwood. Das Paar bewohnte Räume im Kensington Palace. Sie bewohnte diese Räume auch nach dem Tod ihres Mannes 1843. Sie wurde nach ihrem Tod im Kensal Green Cemetery an der Seite von Prinz Augustus Frederick beigesetzt.
