Chapecó in Santa Catarina

Chapecó ist eine Stadt in der Region Oeste Catarinense, im Westen des Bundesstaats Santa Catarina, Südbrasilien, etwa 630 km westlich der Hauptstadt Florianópolis.

Das Gebiet der Verwaltungseinheit umfasst 625 km², und hat etwa 180.000 Einwohner[1]. Die Stadt bildet das Zentrum der Região Metropolitana de Chapecó. Sie besteht aus den Gemeinden Cordilheira Alta, Seara, Xaxim, Guatambu und Nonoai.

Die Stadt wurde 1917 von italienischen Einwanderen gegründet, und verfügt heute über eine Universität, der Unochapecó - Universidade Comunitária Regional de Chapecó[2], und ist Sitz der Diözese Chapecó der römisch-katholischen Kirche (Catedral Santo Antônio).
