Ecclefechan (gälisch Eaglais Fheichein) ist ein Ort im Osten von Dumfries and Galloway in Schottland und hat 746 Einwohner (Stand: 2001[1])

Das Dorf liegt an der M74 von England nach Schottland und am Mein Water, einem Zufluss des Annan River und wird von der A74 durchquert. Bis zur englischen Grenze sind es 14 Kilometer, ins nächste Dorf 8 Kilometer.[2] Im Ort gibt es ein Hotel.[3]

Ecclefechan ist der Geburtsort und letzte Ruhestätte von Thomas Carlyle[2]. Der berühmte Philosoph wurde in dem Gewölbten Haus (auf English: „The Arched House“) geboren. Nach Carlyles Heimgang wurde er gemäß seinem letzten Willen zur letzten Ruhe in Ecclefechan neben seinen Eltern gebettet, wiewohl eine Beisetzung in der Westminster-Abtei genehmigt wurde.
