Engageantes, frz: „Einmischerinnen“, sind lange Spitzenvolants an den Ärmeln von Frauenkleidern.

Im 17. Jahrhundert trug man aus Nadelspitze gefertigte „Spitzenärmel“ noch als eigenes Kleidungsstück.[1]

Seit dem späten 17. Jh. und bis zur beginnenden Langarm-Mode der 1770er wurden Engageantes an die Ärmel des Unterkleids, der Chemise beziehungsweise des Chemisenkleids geheftet. Es gab sie in einfachen Ausführungen, beispielsweise aus Batist und, in gehobenen Kreisen und im Adel, aus wertvoller feiner Tüllspitze, zum Teil in bis zu fünf Lagen pagodenartig übereinander aufgereiht.[1] Zum Waschen ließ sich die nur angeheftete Spitze leicht abtrennen.[2]
