Die Eye of the Wind ist ein zweimastiges Segelschiff vom Typ einer Brigantine (Dreiviertelbrigg), die 1911 vom Stapel lief. In ihrer mehr als 100-jährigen Geschichte umsegelte sie viermal die Welt. Zudem hatte sie mehrere Auftritte in diversen Kinofilmen.

Die Eye of the Wind lief im Jahr 1911 als echtes Segelschiff bei der renommierten Lühring Werft in Brake vom Stapel. Diese Werft war bekannt für ihre hervorragenden und seetüchtigen Schiffe. Die Eye of the Wind, die damals noch Friedrich hieß, segelte zunächst als Frachter in der Nord- und Ostsee.

1923 wurde sie nach Schweden verkauft und fuhr 50 Jahre lang unter schwedischer Flagge teils unter Segeln, teils unter Motor als Küstenfrachter und als Fischereischiff. 1973 ging sie an eine britisch-australische Gesellschaft und wurde wieder zur Schonerbrigg, dann als Brigantine umgebaut. Als Eye of the Wind umsegelte sie viermal die ganze Welt und spielte Rollen in mehreren Kinofilmen, zum Beispiel in Die blaue Lagune, Savage Islands (auch bekannt als Nate and Hayes, deutscher Titel: 'Insel der Piraten'), Taipan und 1996 als das Segelschulschiff Albatross in White Squall. Diese Einsätze machten sie auf der ganzen Welt bekannt und als einen der schönsten noch fahrenden Großsegler berühmt. In dieser Zeit hatte sie auch ihren Einsatz als Trainingsschiff für Jugendliche.

Im Jahr 2000 wurde sie an einen dänischen Eigner verkauft, der sie komplett restaurierte und mit modernster Ausrüstung sowie einer starken Maschine versah. Damit erfüllt sie heute alle modernen Sicherheitsstandards sowie Anforderungen an Komfort und Bequemlichkeit. Die Restauration erfolgte so gefühlvoll, dass sie dabei ihren Charakter als Original-Großsegler behielt. Gesegelt wird nach wie vor komplett im Handbetrieb. [1]

Heute steht das Schiff für individuelle Führungskräfte-Trainings, aber auch für die Vercharterung an private Gruppen zur Verfügung.[2]
