Die Hull and Holderness Railway war eine Bahnstrecke in der nordenglischen Grafschaft East Riding of Yorkshire. Sie verband Kingston upon Hull über die südliche Holderness mit dem Seebad Withernsea an der Nordseeküste und war von 1854 bis 1964 in Betrieb.

Geschichte

Der Bau der Bahnstrecke wurde von Anthony Bannister, einem Geschäftsmann aus Hull initiiert. Seine Idee war, durch den Bau der Strecke die landwirtschaftlich wertvolle Holderness-Ebene zu erschließen sowie den Umbau des Küstenortes Withernsea zu einem Seebad voranzutreiben.

Die Bahnlinie wurde am 26. Juni 1854 offiziell eröffnet. Ursprünglich fuhren die Züge am Bahnhof Victoria Dock ab, ab 1864 verlegte man den Startpunkt jedoch auf den Bahnhof Paragon der North Eastern Railway.

Die Strecke fiel 1964 den Einsparungsplänen der British Rail zum Opfer, sodass der letzte Personenzug am 19. Oktober des selben Jahres auf ihr verkehrte. Gütertransporte wurden bis zum 3. Mai 1965 auf der gesamten Strecke, bis 1968 jedoch nur bis Hedon, und vor der vollständigen Stilllegung der Bahnlinie 1972 nur noch bis Marfleet abgewickelt.
