Cause for Alarm ist eine Hardcore-Punk-Band aus New York.

Cause for Alarm wurde 1981 in New York von Keith Burkhardt gegründet. Nach einigen selbst organisierten Shows nahmen Cause for Alarm 1982 ihre erste Single auf. Diese 7" gilt heute als Meilenstein des thrashigen Hardcores. Im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen N.Y.-Bands dokumentierten Cause for Alarm schon 1982 in ihren Texten eine positive Lebenseinstellung. Da Sänger und Bandgründer Keith Mitglied Hare Krishnas war, versuchte er schon damals seine Religion in die Band einzubringen, was bei den restlichen Bandmitgliedern allerdings auf wenig Gegenliebe stieß. 1983 löste sich Cause for Alarm auf und verpasste dadurch den New York City Hardcore Boom Ende der Achtziger/Anfang der Neunziger und den damit verbundenen kommerziellen Erfolg den z. B. Agnostic Front oder Sick Of It All hatten.

Am 27. November 1994 kam es im Wetland Club N.Y. zu einer spektakulären Reunion–Show. 1995 wurde die erste CD nach der Reunion veröffentlicht, eine Split-CD mit Warzone. 1996 war es dann soweit, nach 15 Jahren wurde das erste Cause-for-Alarm-Album auf Victory Records veröffentlicht. Cheaters and the Cheated verkaufte sich weltweit bis heute ca. 13.000 mal. Mit dem Album im Gepäck kamen Cause for Alarm 1996 zum ersten Mal auf Europatournee. 1997 folgte dann das Album Birth after Birth wieder auf Victory Records. 1998 folgte, wiederum auf Victory Records, das bisher letzte Album Beneath the Wheel. Dieses war wesentlich ausgefeilter, besser strukturiert und eingängiger als seine Vorgänger, wich aber nicht einen Millimeter vom Hardcore-Ethos ab. Obwohl fast alle Lyrics religiös eingefärbt sind, wird nur selten gepredigt, Cause for Alarm verlieren nie den Bezug zu irdischen Problemen, wie z. B. der Obdachlosigkeit in ihrer Heimatstadt New York.

Nach 1998 sind keine Auftritte der Band mehr bekannt.
