Das International Ombudsman Institute (I.O.I.) ist eine unabhängige und unpolitische internationale Organisation mit Sitz in Wien. Die rund 140 Mitglieder sind nationale, regionale und lokale Ombudsmann-Einrichtungen aus ca. 75 Staaten.
Das I.O.I. wurde 1978 gegründet und hat Regionalgruppen in Afrika, Asien, Australien und im Pazifischen Ozean, in der Karibik und Lateinamerika sowie in Nordamerika und Europa. Durch ihre Tätigkeit fördert sie den Austausch von Information und Erfahrungen zwischen Ombudsmann-Einrichtungen weltweit.
Seit September 2009 ist die Volksanwaltschaft Sitz des Generalsekretariates des I.O.I. Das Generalsekretariat wird immer von einem Mitglied der Volksanwaltschaft geleitet, derzeit ist Peter Kostelka Generalsekretär des I.O.I.
