Der Lauréat Prix International de Géographie Vautrin Lud, auch bekannt als Prix Vautrin Lud, wurde 1991 zum ersten Mal verliehen. Es ist die höchste internationale Auszeichnung im Fachbereich Geographie und wird umgangssprachlich auch als Nobelpreis für Geographie bezeichnet.[1] Der Preis ist nach dem Franzosen Vautrin Lud benannt, der als erster die Neue Welt nach Amerigo Vespucci Amerika benannte.[2] Die Auszeichnung wird in der Regel im Herbst eines jeden Jahres im Rahmen des Internationalen Geographie-Festivals in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, Frankreich verliehen, der Geburtsstadt Vautrin Luds.[1]
