Shap ist ein Ort mit 1221 (Stand 2001)[1] Einwohnern in Cumbria im Nordwesten Englands. Der Ort besitzt seit dem 17. Jahrhundert das Marktrecht.

Der Ort liegt heute an der West Coast Main Line der Eisenbahn. Dieser Teil der Bahnstrecke, wurde am 17. Dezember 1846 als Lancaster and Carlisle Railway eröffnet. Der damals ebenfalls eröffnete Bahnhof wurde 1968 geschlossen.

Der Ort ist für den Shap Summit und seinen Pass bekannt, über den sowohl die Autobahn (54° 30′ N, 2° 39′ W54.502645-2.645473) als auch die Eisenbahnlinie (54° 30′ N, 2° 40′ W54.493623-2.664785278.5) führt. Für Dampflokomotiven war der Anstieg in Richtung Norden mit einer Steigung von 1:75 oft zu groß, deshalb waren in Tebay Lokomotiven als Unterstützung stationiert.

Bei Shap wird auch ein nach dem Ort bezeichneter rosafarbener Granit abgebaut.[2]
