Die Slugging Percentage ist eine Baseball-Statistik. Sie ist ein Maß dafür, wie viele Bases ein Schlagmann pro Schlagdurchgang (At-Bat) erreicht.

SLG = \frac{(\mathit{1B}) + (2 \times \mathit{2B}) + (3 \times \mathit{3B}) + (4 \times \mathit{HR})}{AB}

Um die Slugging Percentage (SLG) zu berechnen, addiert man die Anzahl der Singles (d.h. nach dem erfolgreichen Hit direkt die erste Base erreicht, 1B), die doppelte Anzahl der Doubles (2B), die dreifache Anzahl der Triples (3B) und die vierfache Anzahl der Home Runs (HR). Diese Summe teilt man durch die Anzahl der Schlagdurchgänge insgesamt (At-Bats, AB).

Wenn z. B. ein Schlagmann in 100 Durchgängen jeweils 10 Singles, 10 Doubles, 10 Triples und 10 Home Runs erzielt (d. h. auch 60 Mal vorzeitig ausscheidet), hat er ein SLG von (10+20+30+40)/100 = 1,000. Die maximal erzielbare Slugging percentage ist 4,000, d. h. wenn ein Hitter in jedem Schlagdurchgang einen Home Run (d. h. vier Slugging-Punkte) erzielt.

Bewertung

Slugging Percentage ist eine geläufige Kennzahl, um die Schlagkraft („Slugging“) eines Hitters zu bestimmen. Allerdings bildet es die Realität nur vereinfacht ab: gute Schlagmänner, die Balls und damit Walks provozieren, werden hierbei benachteiligt.

Der Batting Average errechnet sich ähnlich, aber gewichtet alle Singles, Doubles, Triples und Home Runs gleich. Hierbei wird pur die Fähigkeit gemessen, den Ball mit einem Hit ins Spiel zu bringen, was Home-Run-Spezialisten benachteiligt. On-Base Percentage errechnet die Häufigkeit, mit der ein Schlagmann überhaupt ins Spiel kommt, berücksichtigt also auch Walks.
