Der System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI)[1] wird als Indikator für die Zuverlässigkeit von Stromversorgungsunternehmen verwendet. SAIDI ist der durchschnittliche Ausfalldauer je versorgtem Verbraucher und wird wie folgt berechnet:

SAIDI wird in Zeiteinheiten gemessen, meist in Minuten oder Stunden. Normalerweise wird ein Jahreswert ermittelt. Gemäß IEEE Standard 1366-1998 ist der Mittelwert für Nordamerika etwa 1,5 Stunden. Laut Bundesnetzagentur liegen die deutschen Werte bei ca 15 Minuten (2009) bzw. 17 Minuten (2008)[2].
