Die Halmsängerartigen (Cisticolidae) sind eine artenreiche Singvogelfamilie, die früher als Unterfamilie der Grasmückenartigen (Sylviidae) galt. Es sind kleine insektenfressende Vögel mit abgerundeten Flügeln und langen, oftmals abgestuften Schwänzen. Ihre Größe variiert von 9 bis 20 Zentimetern. Ihre Beine sind dünn und der Schnabel spitz. Es gibt 27 Gattungen, 145 Arten und 529 Taxa unterhalb des Artniveaus, die im südlichen Europa, in Afrika, in Asien und in der australasiatischen Zone vorkommen. Ihr Lebensraum sind Wälder, Savannen, Grasland, Sümpfe sowie halbtrockenes und trockenes Buschland. Die Gefiederfärbung ist hell bei den waldbewohnenden Arten und dunkel bei den Arten, die offenes Gelände bewohnen.
