Das Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) ist eine nicht-ministerielle Regierungsorganisation für England und Wales, die direkt dem Parlament verantwortlich ist. Sie ist in 42 lokalen Bezirken organisiert, jeder Bezirk hat seinen eigenen Chief Crown Prosecutor.

Leitung

Der Leiter des Crown Prosecution Service (Director of Public Prosecution, DPP) ist dem Attorney General for England and Wales verantwortlich.

Aufgaben

Zu den Aufgaben des CPS gehören unter anderem folgende:

  • Weitergabe früher Ratschläge und Informationen an die Polizei
  • Entscheidung über Anklage oder sonstige Maßnahmen wie Verwarnung, Maßregelung etc.
  • laufende Prüfung jedes Falles
  • Offenbarungsangelegenheiten
  • Information von Verbrechensopfern über die Fortschritte des jeweiligen Falls

Ziel der CPS ist, die Funktionsfähigkeit, Fairness und Effizienz der Staatsanwaltschaft zu fördern.
