Csom

István Csom (* 2. Juni 1940 in Sátoraljaújhely) ist ein ungarischer Schachspieler.

Den FIDE-Titel Internationaler Meister erhielt er 1967, den Großmeistertitel 1973.

1972 und 1973 (geteilt) wurde er ungarischer Meister. Er gewann Turniere in zum Beispiel Amsterdam (1969), Olot (1973), Cleveland und das Zonenturnier in Pula (1975), sowie Hannover (1976), Berlin (1979), Kopenhagen (1983), Järvenpää (1985) und Delhi (1987). Bei der Seniorenweltmeisterschaft 2001 im italienischen Arco belegte er den zweiten Platz.

Bei der Mannschaftseuropameisterschaft in Bath erhielt er 1973 die Goldmedaille als bester Spieler am fünften Brett (mit 5,5 aus 7). Mit der ungarischen Nationalmannschaft nahm er an neun Schacholympiaden teil, wobei Ungarn mit ihm 1978 das Turnier und er 1980 einen Einzeltitel (7 aus 9 am vierten Brett) gewann. Bei der Mannschaftsweltmeisterschaft 1985 in Luzern belegte er mit dem ungarischen Team den zweiten Platz.

Csom spielt in der 1. ungarischen Liga (für ASE Paks) und im österreichischen Ligabetrieb (bis zur Saison 2001/2002 für Stein/Steyr, seit der Saison 2007/2008 für Kremsmünster); im deutschen Vereinsschach spielte er zuletzt für den Preetzer TSV in der Saison 2001/02.

Seine aktuelle Elo-Zahl beträgt 2446 (Stand: Januar 2009), seine bisher höchste Elo-Zahl lag bei 2545 im Januar 1989.
