Disco King Mario

Disco King Mario (* Bronx, New York City; † etwa 1994[1]) war ein Pionier des Hip-Hop. Mario gehörte in den 1970ern zu den führenden DJs der Bronx. Er war berühmt für seine Block Partys.

Zusammen mit seiner Crew Chuck Chuck City veröffentlichte er mehrere Mixtapes. Er lieh Afrika Bambaataa die technische Ausrüstung für dessen erste Auftritte als DJ, Bambaataas erstes DJ-Battle fand 1976 in der New Yorker Junior High School 123 gegen Mario statt. Der später bekannte DJ Jazzy Jay hatte seine ersten Auftritte zusammen mit Marios Chuck Chuck City. Zusammen mit Bambaataa kontrollierte Mario zeitweise die gesamte südöstliche Bronx. Beide waren ursprünglich Mitglied der Gang Black Spades und DJs mussten entweder von Bambaataas Zulu Nation oder von Marios Chuck Chuck City eine Erlaubnis bekommen, bevor sie gefahrlos öffentlich auflegen konnten.
